To achieve the industry's mid-term goal of carbon-neutral growth, the sector called on the world's governments, represented at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), to put a global carbon offsetting scheme for international aviation in place.

CORSIA - short for the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation - is the world's first global scheme to offset the growth in international aviation CO2.

Ensuring quality of offsets
The types of offsets that are eligible under CORSIA determine the quality and effectiveness of the scheme. Only carbon offsets certified under programs that meet internationally agreed environment criteria are eligible.
