Air transport supports 43 million jobs and $2.3 trillion in GDP in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) countries. That is 2.8% of all employment and 3.6% of all GDP in the APEC countries in 2023.
APEC economies
The air transport industry in the APEC economies generated an estimated 6.8 million direct jobs in 2023, broken down as follows:
• Airline workers: 1.9 million (29% of the total)
• Airport operators: 290,000 (4%)
• Other on-airport roles: 3.2 million (47%)
• Civil aerospace jobs: 1.3 million (19%)
• Air navigation service providers: 98,000 (1%)
In 2023, the operations of businesses within the air transport sector directly generated a $690 billion contribution to GDP.
