Air transport supports 29 million jobs and $2.9 trillion in GDP in the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)’s member countries. That is 4.3% of all employment and 4.6% of all GDP in OECD countries in 2023.

In 2023, the air transport industry generated an estimated 6.3 million direct jobs in the OECD in the following areas:
- Airline workers: 1.3 million (21% of the total)
- Airport operators: 240,000 (4%)
- Other on-airport roles: 3.7 million (58)
- Civil aerospace jobs: 920,000 (15%)
- Air navigation service providers: 99,000 (2%)
Moreover, the aviation sector's spending with suppliers is estimated to have supported a further 7.4 million jobs and a $810 billion gross value-added contribution to GDP.
