ASEAN member states

Air transport supports 17 million jobs and $210 billion in GDP in the member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). That is 5.2% of all employment and 5.5% of all GDP across the bloc in 2023.

The air transport industry in the ASEAN member states generated an estimated 880,000 direct jobs in 2023, broken down as follows:

  • Airline workers: 380,000 (43% of the total)
  • Airport operators: 42,000 (5%)
  • Other on-airport roles: 400,000 (45%)
  • Civil aerospace jobs: 44,000 (5%)
  • Air navigation service providers: 17,000 (2%).

In 2023, the operations of businesses within the air transport sector directly generated a $44 billion contribution to GDP.
