Air transport supports 2.9 million jobs and $24 billion in GDP in landlocked developing countries (LLDCs). That is 1.3% of all employment and 2.1% of all GDP in the LLDCs in 2023.
The air transport industry in LLDCs generated an estimated 160,000 direct jobs in 2023, broken down as follows:
- Airline workers: 80,000 (50% of the total)
- Airport operators: 15,000 (10%)
- Other on-airport roles: 52,000 (33%)
- Civil aerospace jobs: 4,800 (3%)
- Air navigation service providers: 6,800 (4%)
In 2023, the operations of businesses within the air transport sector directly generated a $4.7 billion contribution to GDP.
