The air transport industry in the EU27 generated an estimated 2 million direct jobs in 2023, broken down as follows:
- Airline workers: 310,000 (16% of the total)
- Airport operators: 120,000 (6%)
- Other on-airport roles: 1.2 million (63%)
- Civil aerospace jobs: 260,000 (14%)
- Air navigation service providers: 36,000 (2%)
Moreover, the operations of businesses within the air transport sector directly generated a $190 billion contribution to GDP.
